Floor 5 City of Cleveland

Floor Five the town of Cleveland is where many citizens from all over the state of Nebraska. Senior Counselor Emma Good and Junior Counselor Corrie Sasse expressed how excited they were to start the week of fun filled activities. Floor five was where the fun was during Girls State. All thirty-five girls on the floor instantly connected and felt like a family.
The week started on Sunday June 4th, 2023, at 2:30pm where the town of Cleveland would introduce themselves for the first time to everyone. The girls went around the room stating their name, where they reside, and what kind of kitchen appliance they were feeling that day. There were a variety of answers from a toaster to a wooden spatula to a nine by thirteen casserole dish. The girls also did an icebreaker activity of creating cheers for floor five. “Floor five, floor five, we strive to be floor five!” Is one of the many cheers the floor came up with.
The floor immediately became a sisterhood, a lot of girls were able to show their big personalities. Floor five is the place to be when it comes to any free time the girls had. After lunch on Monday afternoon a few of the girls had a dance party in the lobby. They were screaming the music so loud that citizens all the way up on floor seven and all the way down to floor 2 could hear them in the stairwell. They even got counselors Emma and Corrie to dance a little bit too! A few of the girls figured out how to turn the TV on in the lobby and the only show they could find was the Dr. Phil show. They then sat and binged the show until it was time for their town meeting.
Floor five was represented well during campaigning and when it came time to vote for the state primary and county office. Hannah Tang ran for Governor and was voted the candidate for the Nationalist party heading into the General Election. Hannah was able to take part in a Gubernatorial Debate and rocked it. Floor five was beyond proud of her and all that she has accomplished in the last two days. Hannah’s slogan was “TANG-gible PROGRESS” for moving toward the future but never missing a step along the way.
This is an experience the thirty-five girls on floor five will never forget. The girls had a blast at Cornhusker Girls State. The relationships they have built, the connections they have made, will always be something they will carry with them forever. From floor five our sincerest “Thank You” to all who made this entire week possible and for the opportunity to experience this once in a lifetime camp.
