Floor 3 City of Harding – By: Ariel Gallegos
Posted on: June 20, 2024From the moment the girls on floor three took their first steps up those stairs, through the door, and to their dorm, the girls’ were full of scared, anxious, nervous, and excited energy. Yet even though they were scared, the girls still proudly stood and told who they were and what they were wanting to do. We all knew right then and there that this wasn’t simply a “floor” or a “group of girls” no this is our family, our home. As mayor of the city of Harding, I love to say that these girls have shown me so many ways I can look at life and so many different characters. Everyone here is there for one another. No one laughs alone and no one walks alone. Here on floor three, everyone knows everyone, and no one’s a stranger. We have had so many girls on our floor accomplish so many good things this week, one of our girls, Chloe Hanzlik, had made it to the governor debate and did amazing. She was calm, composed, and polite. She told the truth about not knowing much about being governor but she is ready to learn with us all at her side one step at a time.
Our counselors were Jenna Potter and Alyssa Moser. We couldn’t have asked for better counselors, these two women have been there for us through thick and thin whenever one of us has a problem they aren’t afraid to drop everything they are doing to help. For example, one night, I couldn’t find my mayor folder and Alyssa stopped what she was doing to help me find it. Alyssa is the order to all of floor three, keeping us on time and where we need to be. Jenna is strong and not afraid to say what is on her mind. She helps keep us all as a team, Jenna is our glue and without her floor three would not be the floor it is today, tomorrow and forever. And I can state that for a fact we were all scared that our counselors were gonna be mean and not fun people but in reality these two amazing counselors we got are the life of the party, and they love late night talks with their floor, and a good dance party.
When you come down to floor three you won’t see a bunch of girls hiding in their rooms playing on their phones, you would walk into a common area full of girls singing and talking. From singing “Let it Grow” from The Lorax while preparing for the talent show to having important life talks, floor three has been there for each other all day everyday. These girls support one another like no other group of girls I’ve seen, these girls sit with one another at breakfast, lunch, or supper if they are sitting alone, floor three doesn’t let anyone get left behind. Everynight all the girls gather around in the commons for a town meeting but after the meeting all the girls stay and talk with one another. Floor three is a family and a home. In this home that our floor of girls and counselors created, we came up with many chants with the all time favorite being “ 1 2 3 we’re Harding, 1 2 3 we’re Floor Three” to the song ABC.”
Floor three was a magical floor and will forever be my home. The rooms, the girls, and the counselors made this the best place to be. Every girl on my floor had a wonderful time with the chance to make their voices heard.
