Floor 7 City of Truman – By: Reagan Miller

Named after the thirty-third president of the United States, the town of Truman had formed an alliance that never broke apart. The expectation was to step out of your comfort zone and make lifelong friends. Upon arrival everyone was eager to discover the importance of Cornhusker Girls State. The first step which everyone experienced was walking up the long flights of stairs. You would have thought the mission up the stairs was a marathon as many girls were out of breath! Floor 7 was decorated rodeo themed as this was Floor 7’s way of coming together! As you scan the floor a map of Nebraska is displayed with sticky notes on the wall which represents where all girls are from on Truman. Floor 7 was beyond proud to name its stuffed animal mascot “Dr. Benny Domino” after much group discussion. This stuffed animal was a brown longhorn with a light brown cowboy hat. When our town settled in we had our very first town meeting and everyone introduced each other.

Throughout the course of the week these strangers became sisters. Whether it was meetings or campaigning the laughter would echo and fill the hallways. Many nights you could hear karaoke or even singing “Happy Birthday” to a fellow roommate. Floor 7 was the place to be. Another night was filled with a celebration as many snacks such as popcorn and homemade lemonade were served. With people drinking out of bowls if they forgot their cups. Through many busy days of fun with activities and lots of bracelet making on our floor many memories were made. After long days this would come to an end when Truman would finish their days with town meetings each night. Truman ended their days talking about plans they would expect from the days later into the week. Here’s to a few days of catching up on sleep!
