Floor 9 City of Kennedy – By: Evalina Sain

Float up the elevator to Cloud 9, unless you desire enduring the rigorous trek up the daunting stairs, and assuredly you will be welcomed by girls congregating in their temporary home for the week. The Girls State Citizens residing on floor nine instantaneously fostered an irreplicable bond, eagerly stumbling over names throughout the evening in an attempt at memorization. Concerning caffeine addictions (we love our Celsius and Dr. Pepper) and Aquaphor mania became unifying infatuations upon introductions.

Campaigning consisted of girls racing through the hallways, despite the mild earthquake it may have caused for those below, and abundances of candy. On floor nine, ambition surged through the halls, with approximately half the girls filing for county or state office. Junior Counselor Johnna Peterson and Senior Counselor Karlie Sines, never failed to alleviate any confusion and answer endless questions, even if the answer was stated seconds before.

Those on the ninth floor were indisputably the appointed cheer captains of the week: no pom-poms, just ecstatic hollering that echoed through the city anytime the floor practiced their chants. Floor nine was the first to perform a cheer at the initial opening sessions, a precise testament to the vigorous energy the girls maintained throughout the week. During whistle stops, each floor nine resident gathered in the lobby to cordially support each campaigner and reinforce the familial dynamic and ideals held by Girls State.

Read below to be graced with a floor nine rhyme:

Rendition of Justin Bieber’s “If I Was Your Boyfriend:”

If you lived on Kennedy

You’d never want to go

We have so much fun here

Like you’ve never seen before

You could live on floor nine

But you live below

Our spirit is top tier

Like we always steal the show
