At the onset of the Federalist Party meeting, we entrusted the task of designing our logo to two talented artists from each floor. This decision was a testament to our commitment to visual representation. We then proceeded to hear from the women aspiring to be our chairman, vice chairman, and secretary. The elected officials were Jena Eberspacer (floor 6-Roosevelt) as the Chairman, Clara Preister (floor 9-Kennedy) as the Vice Chairman, and Calah Archibeque (floor 4-Coolidge) as our Secretary. With our leadership in place, we were ready to dive into the agenda.

Our initial discussion was met with a brief silence, but it was quickly shattered by a member who courageously proposed our first motion. This act of initiative set the tone for the rest of the meeting, showcasing the democratic spirit of our party. As the first motion was passed, the conversation gained momentum and continued to flow. In total, we had the opportunity to discuss and pass nine motions, a clear reflection of our members’ active participation.

Out of our nine motions, only three failed. The three that failed failed quickly. Our first failed motion was raising the minimum wage to fit the economy. While that is great, and we had some good conversations about it, we collectively decided there were better ideas than this. The second failed motion was our seventh, which we went over. This motion was to reduce the prices of medications that are needed. While this is a thing that could help those in poverty who can’t afford the medicines, the motion was for medicines that are “needed.” This was such a broad topic the medications “needed” could mean anything from insulin to live to Tylenol for the daily aches and pains. Because this was such a wide medication gap, we ended up amending the original motion twice, which both failed. We also had two previous questions called, and only one of them passed. The third one that was brought up was our ninth and final motion. That motion was to support student journalism rights. About five minutes after the previous question was called. That was then passed. Our initial vote then failed.

Besides our three motions failed, the six that passed spiked some great conversations. Our six motions included anything from thanking the American Auxiliary for providing us the opportunity to increase law enforcement funding. We talked about many things that all of us were very passionate about. We had some good and bad things about every topic that we went over.

In the end, the Federalist Party had many excellent outcomes. In one hour and fifteen minutes, we went over nine motions. Three of those motions failed, and the other six were passed. Despite disagreements, we all worked together, heard each other out, heard different opinions, and kept an open mind for everyone’s views. In the end, the Federalist Party got a lot done!
